A colonoscopy examines the colon and rectum using a flexible camera — used to investigate bowel symptoms, surveil polyps, and screen for bowel cancer.
What it is
A flexible endoscope is gently passed through the rectum to examine the entire colon. Polyps may be removed and biopsies taken during the same procedure.

How to prepare
A bowel preparation (laxative regimen) is required to clear the colon. Our team gives you clear timing, diet, and hydration instructions in advance.
On the day
You'll be screened and prepared for sedation. The procedure usually takes 20–40 minutes. You'll recover comfortably before discharge.
Recovery
Mild bloating is normal and passes quickly. You'll receive a written report and follow-up plan, including any polyp histology results once available.
Risks (in plain language)
Colonoscopy is generally very safe. Rare risks include bleeding (especially after polyp removal), sedation reaction, or perforation. Your specialist will discuss these with you.
When to seek help
Contact us or attend an emergency department if you have severe abdominal pain, ongoing rectal bleeding, fever, or fainting after the procedure.
After sedation
Do not drive after sedation. Please arrange transport home and a responsible adult for the rest of the day.
